Get Beach Ready for Spring Break

Whether you are in college or not, spring is a great time for a quick getaway! Taking a few days to soak up some sun and enjoy the warmer weather is good for the body, mind, and soul. Digging through your closet to find your bikini is an important part of beach prep, but there are a few other essentials to remember before you go.

Treat Your Toes to a Pedi

This may be the first time that your toes have seen the light of day in months, as cold weather keeps you wearing socks and winter boots. At the beach you will be rocking your favorite sandals—and even when you go out at night you may have a gorgeous new pair of open toe platforms worth showing off, so make sure your toes are ready.

This season’s nails are either graphic or understated, so whatever your style, you can be on trend. Choose bold colors in geometric shapes, soft pinks, or new neutrals like off-white and taupe. The ever-popular metallic trend hasn’t gone anywhere, with unique shades like gunmetal and deep copper taking center stage.

Pack Some SPF

We know that sunscreen is not necessarily a luxury, but it is absolutely a beauty necessity! Protect your skin from the sun’s harm with broad spectrum sunscreen (that protects from UVA and UVB rays) and at least SPF 30. We know you want that golden glow from your vacation, but protecting your face from the sun is more important.

You should be wearing sunscreen on your face every day to prevent wrinkles, sun damage, and skin cancer, but it is especially important to apply when you are sitting in the sun. Don’t forget to reapply at least every two hours, or after swimming and sweating. And remember to pack lip balm with SPF for your lips as well, as they are prone to skin cancer.

Wax Those Stray Hairs

Spending time on hair removal uses up valuable beach time, and you can’t afford to miss one moment of relaxation. Waxing ensures that your unwanted body hair is gone for the longest amount of time (compared with shaving, sugaring, or other methods), usually lasting between 3 and 5 weeks.

Before you wax, make sure to prepare your skin. Exfoliate the area the night before to help avoid bumps and make the process go more smoothly. When the wax is done, use a cold compress to help close pores and soothe the skin. Make sure to keep exfoliating the area to keep it smooth and bump free.

Don’t Forget a Hat

It bears repeating that the sun can damage your skin, and protecting yourself from its harmful rays should be an important part of your getaway. Wearing a wide-brimmed hat—we suggest one that coordinates with your cover-up and makes you feel like a total bombshell—is a totally chic way to keep the sun off your face.

Even better? A stylish hat also protects your hair from the sun! The sun dries out your hair, which can cause frizz, thinness, split ends, and dull, lifeless locks. Additionally, the sun fades your hair’s color, taking the shine out and making it look drab. Taking care of your hair and looking put together is easy with a fabulous hat!

The most important thing about getting ready for your spring break getaway? Having fun! Pampering yourself with a pedi, buying fun new accessories, and taking some time for yourself is almost as fun as the beach trip…almost.
